Mental Souvenirs

Inside of me, rests a gallery of mental souvenirs. I’d like to believe it’s an exclusive collection but somehow my resistance fails me and a new memory finds a place for itself there, once every few months.

Basically, how it works is, whenever I witness a moment i’d like to come back to – I spend about 30 odd seconds trying to capture the essence of how I exactly feel

How does the wind feel on my skin? How many different colours (or shades of the same colour) can I spot? Can I isolate each sound that I hear from the noise around me? Can I be aware of the entirety of my field of vision right now?

I then rummage the depths of my vocabulary to find one word that ‘feels’ right in the moment and name the memory, only to chuck it into my gallery for later.

Force-simulating that exact moment whenever I can (or want to) somehow gives me a feeling of control that I otherwise lack in my life, hence this practice.

You’d argue that a picture can serve the same purpose. Yes, it can. But can it satiate the need for illogical pretence? Asking for a friend.

Some write to remember, some write to forget. Me? I write to be read :)
