The Gap

Each time an idea strikes me and I try to put it on paper, the first thought that colonizes my mind is — “Have I thought this through well enough for me to put it out there?” Well, without a doubt — the answer is always no. I hastily shove that poorly assembled thought in my repository, and convince my delusional self that I’ll work on it later. Invariably — It gets shelved

Today I was scrolling through my notes and just felt — Why can’t I put out half baked thoughts? Why is it so important for me to make sure that its my best version of that idea? Sure, seamless transitions, perfect tags, subtle parallels and a perfectly descriptive title sounds great but more often than not, this quest kills the idea before its conceived.

Slowly I’m realizing how creating requires uninhibitedness. A disregard for your personal standards. Humility to accept that there’s this gap, whenever you begin something, which is extremely unsettling. The gap between your taste and your immediate output. The same gap which is an unstated graveyard for most incomplete creative pursuits.

My goal for these upcoming months is to pull up a chair and make a cozy spot for myself in that gap until I have enough material to build a bridge and get to the other end.

Again, a dash of irony or satire here would bring this piece together and make for a good ending but I’m gonna make myself uncomfortable and leave it at this.
